چکیده

We construct a constant-round resettably-sound zero-knowledge argument of knowledge based on black-box use of any one-way function. Resettable-soundness was introduced by Barak, Goldreich, Goldwasser and Lindell [FOCS 01] and is a strengthening of the soundness requirement in interactive proofs demanding that soundness should hold even if the malicious prover is allowed to “reset” and “restart” the verifier. In their work they show that resettably-sound ZK arguments require non-black-box simulation techniques, and also provide the first construction based on the breakthrough simulation technique of Barak [FOCS 01]. All known implementations of Barak’s non-black-box technique required non-black-box use of a collision-resistance hash-function (CRHF). Very recently, Goyal, Ostrovsky, Scafuro and Visconti [STOC 14] showed an implementation of Barak’s technique that needs only black-box access to a collision-resistant hash-function while still having a non-black-box simulator. (Such a construction is referred to as semi black-box.) Plugging this implementation in the BGGL’s construction yields the first resettably-sound ZK arguments based on black-box use of CRHFs. However, from the work of Chung, Pass and Seth [STOC 13] and Bitansky and Paneth [STOC 13], we know that resettably-sound ZK arguments can be constructed from non-black-box use of any one-way function (OWF), which is the minimal assumption for ZK arguments. Hence, a natural question is whether it is possible to construct resettably-sound zeroknowledge arguments from black-box use of any OWF only. In this work we provide a positive answer to this question thus closing the gap between black-box and non-black-box constructions for resettably-sound ZK arguments.

Resettably-Sound Zero-Knowledge and its Applications

Resettably-sound proofs and arguments remain sound even when the prover can reset the verifier, and so force it to use the same random coins in repeated executions of the protocol. We show that resettably-sound zero-knowledge arguments for NP exist if collision-resistant hash functions exist. In contrast, resettably-sound zero-knowledge proofs are possible only for languages in P/poly. We prese...

Resettably-Sound Resettable Zero Knowledge Arguments for NP

We construct resettably-sound resettable zero knowledge arguments for NP based on standard hardness assumption (the existence of claw-free permutations) in the plain model. This proves the simultaneous resettability conjecture posed by Barak et al. in [FOCS 2001]. Our construction, inspired by the paradigm for designing concurrent zero knowledge protocols, makes crucial use of a tool called ins...

4-Round Resettably-Sound Zero Knowledge

While 4-round constructions of zero-knowledge arguments are known based on the existence of one-way functions, constuctions of resettably-sound zero-knowledge arguments require either stronger assumptions (the existence of a fully-homomorphic encryption scheme), or more communication rounds. We close this gap by demonstrating a 4round resettably-sound zero-knowledge argument for NP based on the...

Simultaneous Resettability from Collision Resistance

In FOCS 2001, Barak, Goldreich, Goldwasser and Lindell conjectured that the existence of ZAPs, introduced by Dwork and Naor in FOCS 2000, could lead to the design of a zeroknowledge proof system that is secure against both resetting provers and resetting verifiers. Their conjecture has been proven true by Deng, Goyal and Sahai in FOCS 2009 where both ZAPs and collision-resistant hash functions ...

Professor Goldwasser, together with Barak, Goldreich, and Lindell worked on Resettably-sound proofs and arguments. These concept was previously investigated by Reyzin and Micali in the public-key setting. These protocols maintain soundness even when the prover can reset the verifier to use the same random coins in repeated executions of the protocol. In the current work it is shown that resetta...
